Delhi is one of the most popular cities to visit in the world, and provides a great tourist attraction. The Bah’ House of Worship or Lotus Temple, is a rather sizable attraction created in 1986. Since that year, there’s been over 5 million visits yearly to that particular place. It provides a peaceful place of enlightenment for all people regardless of religion. Everyone is welcome, and the readings and prayers are allowed with choirs.

Structurally, it’s a really impressive work of art having the presence of a giant lotus in the bloom. This particular structure focuses on a 9 sided circular shape, which is different from other Bah’ Houses of Worship. It’s made out of a nice concrete frame and the whole property takes up 26 acres if the surround structures are included such as the ponds and gardens.

A lot of tourists go here each year especially holy days where there is as much as 150,000 people attending. CNN considers the temple the most visited place in the world. Some known visitors include Princess Margarita of Romania, and “lafur Ragnar Grmsson, the President of Iceland. This remains the top attraction of India with more visitors than the Taj Mahal.

It is also an attractive tourist destination, with historical tombs and minareted mosques in various styles to reward a visitor’s inspection. The most prominent ones offer a survey of sites available for inspection.

Humanyun’s Tomb

The Mughal Emperor Humayun is interred in a tomb built by his wife in 1562 CE. It is known for its early use of red sandstone in monumental architecture and its status as the subcontinent’s first garden tomb.

Nizam-ud-din’s Dharga

Nizam-ud-din Auliya was a Sufi saint. His dargah, or mausoleum, is the destination of the pilgrimages of thousands of Muslims weekly as well as tourists of other religions. The square tomb features carved pillars supporting marble screens.

Qutub Minar

The tallest brick minaret in the world is Qutub Minar, which is also India’s tallest tower. Built of red sandstone, it sits in the midst of other structures, ruined and intact, from the ancient and medieval periods.

Masjid-i Jahn-Num

The Jama Masjid, built by Shah Jahan in 1628 CE, is the largest mosque in India. It is famous for Friday prayers in its courtyard which is able to hold up to 25,000 people.

As with the history of any important place, the history of Delhi is long, rich and surrounded by myth. It is said that the city has been destroyed and rebuilt a number of times, some record up to 8 times. The early history of this great city is much debated, but the fact that this city is and was of great importance can certainly be agreed upon.

The first mentioned name of Delhi is Indraprastha. This was the capital of the Pandava Kingdom. While Indraprastha is based on legend, it is an appropriate beginning for so important an area. Delhi was the center of many empires. The Maurya, Tomaras, Chauhans, Mughals, and the British all focused on this area. Today New Delhi is the capital of India.

Delhi’s importance does not only come from being the capital of many empires, but also in its religious significance. In the 12th century Delhi was an important Hindu center. By 1206 AD the first Muslim ruler took power in the form of the first sultan, Qutb-Ud-Din Aybak. Today New Delhi is a multi-cultural and multi-linguistic center, with people from all over India residing there.

This city has been prominent for thousands of years and as the capital of India, it looks to stay that way for some time to come.
